About Briggs Bows

Briggs Bows was established in 2025 by myself, Oliver Briggs.

Prior to founding Briggs Bows, I cultivated over a decade of experience, working in a number of orchestral string retail shops in the UK and internationally. Observing a concerning decline in the number of bow specialists operating within the United Kingdom, I undertook retraining as a bow restorer in 2023.

My role as Operations Manager at a prominent London orchestral string shop provided invaluable insight in to the industry and helped accelerate my training in bow restoration. I have benefited significantly from the tutelage and guidance of esteemed bow makers and repairers, including Tim Baker, Florian Bailly and Jutta Walcher, and have been privileged to receive mentorship from leading restorers throughout the country.

My Philosophy

My core principle is to minimize the demand for new production by maximizing the longevity of existing bows. By meticulously restoring bows, we aim to reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable practice within the musical community.

While I acknowledge that some bows are not economically viable for restoration, recognising that the cost of repair may exceed their inherent value, we strive to offer a comprehensive solution. Briggs Bows specializes in the sale of pre-owned bows, expertly restored to their optimal condition in my workshop. I uphold a firm commitment to not offer newly manufactured bows, ensuring that my focus remains on the responsible stewardship of existing items.

Briggs Bows is committed to the preservation of bows for future generations.
